Blackman's Brewery may have produced one of the freshest beers on the market today, the aptly titled IPL is a mix of an IPA and a Lager and may be the best entry for future Beer Connoisseurs to get a taste for IPAs.
The Good: I have reviewed quite a few lagers since Stu and I officially kicked off Suburban Brewing and I gotta say that this Juicy Banger hit me with quite a surprise. With an overzealous crack of the can there was some spray, however Blackman's Brewery was not wrong, the aroma hit me like a tonne of bricks. It was a refreshingly beautiful scent that you typically do not get from a typical lager, in fact it shares a lot more with those designer beers or a very hoppy beer (think Pirate Life) that have infused different fruits and hops for various combinations. Needless to say I was more than excited to try this beer. Like always I take a big sip of the beer (we are not wine tasters after all, we are beer lovers and we drink our beers like they should be drank) and... Well... How... It... Arghh screw it... THIS BEER IS FANTASTIC. The flavours are not harsh on your palette whatsoever, you can taste the freshness from the hops (there is definitely some Mosiac in there, well that is my best guess anyway). It is the sort of beer you could have if you wanted to start drinking IPAs but haven't really developed a taste for it.
The Bad: This may seem like an oddity but honestly the availability of this beer is the biggest downside of it. I stumbled across this after we had to buy some parts for our brewing set up and it has taken me a good few weeks to get around to reviewing this and damn am I disappointed I didn't try it sooner. If this was available in the major bottle shops it would be an instant hit, but because of this I have gotta say is the only thing that disappoints me with this beer.
Enjoyment: Okay I making the biggest call so far on this site, but this may be one of the best beers I have ever had. It has the freshness that I absolutely adore, making it a very easy drink to consume rain, hail or shine and the hop profile is a delight. The only other beer that I could honestly say competes with this IPL (as it is affectionately known) is a Two Birds Taco, a beer I wholeheartedly call my most favourite beer ever. This is a serious contender for my beer of 2018 and one of the beers I want to drink more and more of. So Blackman's Brewery if you are reading this, hit me up, I would love to do a tour of your brewery and drink copious amounts of what you have to offer because DAMN are you doing it well!
