Last month I was lucky enough to attend the beer day out in Canberra. This was a very well organised event, and there were many great craft breweries out to show their wares.
This was my second beer day out, and it was definitely an improved experience at the new location.
There was a chilled out live band who played some mammoth sets across a very warm afternoon, and the St. John ambulance team were around making sure we all stayed safe (thanks for the free sunscreen).
The beer of the day for me was the Bentspoke double red, this came in at over a whopping 9% ABV, and had some really interesting characters and flavours that kept me hooked in. Luckily I only had a tasting size or this may have put me on my arse.
A close second came again from Bentspoke (fast becoming one of my fave breweries), their raspberry wheat was exceptional. Really strong raspberry flavours, they definitely weren’t shy with this one.
There were some great food offerings to go along with all the frosty beers, and a number of rice paper rolls were knocked back along side the samples we tried throughout the day. Also a hot tip, I had a chicken parma and chips at brunch before the event (yes, really!) to make sure I was never drinking on an empty stomach. Highly recommend eating before any beer festival.
All in all I managed to try a taste from all of the breweries present, and have to say I was quite impressed at the quality on offer, especially amongst those beers brewed especially for the event.
Hopefully I’ll be back at beer day out next year, and I may even drag Paddy along with me.
