Amanda’s a good woman around Suburban Brewing, and this namesake IPA does her very proud.
The Good: Nicely balanced hops, far more balanced than I expected in fact. With the use of the Mandarina Bavaria hops, cold pressed mandarins and Cointreau, I was expecting something of a citrus bomb, but it’s in fact somewhat less forward than expected, giving this “Mandarin IPA” quite a refined flavour profile, and a faintly biting bitterness. I’m probably biased, but I think the malt bill is fantastic, and one close to my heart: Pale malt, wheat, carapils and crystal - a home brewers delight!
The Bad: Not much at this point. For transparency, might have sampled a few in front of the fire before I got to this one back at the room though.
Enjoyment: This review is probably quite unbalanced since I was on a weekend away when I tried this, but I really enjoyed it. I had to sub in my brother in law Craig for Paddy to share this cold beer with, and it was genuinely quite a nice brew. As always, an IPA is always pretty high on my list of beers to try, and I’m glad I picked it (Note I did sample the local ouzo at 11:00am in the fancy Bowral bottle-o, but I think this beer was the right call).
